Disneyland Parking Fire Leads to Injuries, Car Damage

by | Feb 15, 2017 | Fire

The happiest place on Earth wasn’t so chipper this week when a fire broke out in Disneyland’s main parking structure. The blaze injured seven people and damaged eight cars according to authorities.

As of press time, authorities hadn’t determined the cause of the fire, which occurred in Disneyland’s Mickey & Friends Parking Structure.

Seven employees were treated for smoke inhalation. There were no reports of injuries to park visitors, only irritation at the evacuation and shutdown.

If, for the sake of argument, you were injured in Disneyland’s parking lot fire, an experienced personal injury lawyer could help you sort out your claim. Fortunately, no visitors were injured. Had a visitor gotten caught in the fire, he or she could have suffered serious burn injuries, which often require extensive (and expensive) surgery. A personal injury lawyer would help you get compensated for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages.

One of the first orders of business, however, would be to determine the fire’s cause. This helps us determine which company, individual, or both, might be responsible.

If the fire was caused by a car defect, we could look at the auto manufacturer, an auto repair shop, or a rental car company for liability, depending on the situation.

If the fire stemmed from irresponsibility on Disney’s part, such as poor maintenance or unsafe storage of flammable materials, Disney could be held liable. A subcontractor or another third party could potentially take the blame if their work was the source of the problem.

The Disney employees who suffered from smoke inhalation are likely covered under Disney’s worker’s compensation insurance. However, if Disney for some reason refused to help its employees, the injured parties may have a worker’s compensation claim. They may also have a case against a third party if an entity other than Disney caused the fire.

As you can see, personal injury cases involve an extensive amount of research. In addition to investigating an accident’s cause, we also consider damage to yourself and, if applicable, your vehicle. Health insurance and auto insurance companies add to the complexity of a case.

The Mickey & Friends fire at Disneyland caused about $180,000 in damage. When it opened, in 2000, it was considered the largest parking garage in North America.

If you find yourself injured in a fire or another unfortunate circumstance, contact a personal injury attorney right away. An experienced personal injury lawyer will help you recover the compensation you deserve.
