Summer Vacation Safety Tips

by | Jul 9, 2015 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

The kids are out of school; the weather is heating up (most of the time); and vacation season is in full force. If you plan to hit the road this summer, keep these safety precautions in mind to ensure a relaxing and safe summer break.

Auto Safety

  • Make sure your vehicle is in tip-top shape before making a long drive. Get the oil changed, properly inflate the tires, and perform any other routine maintenance needed. Also pack a first aid kit and roadside emergency kit, and make sure the spare tire is still in the trunk.
  • On the road, obey the speed limit and other traffic laws, wear your seat belt, don’t drive and text or talk on the phone, and make sure you feel rested when you sit behind the wheel. If you start to get drowsy, take a rest stop or ask a travel companion to take over.

Hotel Safety

With awareness and common sense, you can keep your belongings safe and your body injury-free.

  • Walk only in well-lit areas and well-traveled streets and paths.
  • Keep your vehicle locked and belongings out of site.
  • Keep your hotel door locked-both the deadbolt and the chain lock.
  • Lock all valuables in the hotel room safe. Better yet, leave all expensive jewelry and similar items at home.

Pool Safety

Horseplay in or around the pool can lead to serious injuries if a child falls on the hard, concrete surface. Walk, don’t run.

  • Don’t drink alcohol at the pool or on the beach. Alcohol and swimming don’t mix.
  • Keep children away from drains, grates, suction vents and other areas that could catch small fingers and toes.
  • Never leave children unattended at the pool or beach.
  • Never swim alone.
  • Swim in areas supervised by a lifeguard if possible.
  • Always wear sunscreen.

Follow these tips and have a fun and safe summer vacation!
